Overview
Begin your private shore excursion from Fushiki Toyama Port and travel comfortably in your own private vehicle without having to follow the pace of a large group.
Start at Zuiryu-ji Temple, a magnificent Zen Buddhist temple built in honor of Maeda Toshinaga. Admire its impressive wooden architecture and beautifully symmetrical layout, including three buildings designated as National Treasures.
Continue to Inami, a historic town renowned for its centuries-old tradition of woodcarving. Stroll along Yokamachi Street, where traditional woodcarving workshops line the streets, and visit Zuisen-ji Temple, known for its impressive architecture and elaborate wooden carvings.
Next, travel into the mountains to Ainokura Gassho-style Village in Gokayama, a UNESCO World Heritage village known for its traditional steeply thatched-roof houses. Walk through the peaceful mountain settlement, where historic gassho-style houses remain and local residents continue to live today.
If time permits, visit the Murakami House, a traditional gassho-style residence designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, and see the nearby Exile Hut, which preserves part of Gokayama’s unique history.
Before the tour, you will receive an English digital guidebook with information about the itinerary and each sightseeing location. The driver speaks Japanese, and communication will be assisted by a translation app.
After discovering Toyama’s historic architecture, traditional craftsmanship, and the mountain culture of Gokayama, return comfortably to Fushiki Toyama Port in time for your ship’s departure.
