Hitachinaka Private Shore Excursion: Mito & Oarai Highlights 6H
Details
──────────────────
Overview
Begin your private shore excursion with a convenient pickup directly from Hitachinaka Port. Travel in the comfort of your own private vehicle. Unlike a large group tour, there is no need to keep pace with other travelers, allowing you to enjoy each destination comfortably and at your own pace.
Your first stop is Kairakuen, one of Japan's Three Great Gardens. Take a relaxing walk through the beautiful garden, famous for its plum trees and seasonal flowers. Depending on the season and the guests' walking ability, the sightseeing route can be adjusted to focus on the most scenic areas. Wheelchairs are also available free of charge at the East Gate.
Continue to Kodokan, the former domain school of the Mito Clan, founded in 1841. Explore this important historical site and learn about education, culture, and samurai life during the Edo period. Kodokan is a Special National Historic Site, and several of its buildings are designated Important Cultural Properties.
Next, travel to Nakaminato Fish Market, a lively waterfront market famous for its fresh seafood. Enjoy a short walk through the market, see the wide variety of locally caught seafood, and browse the shops and restaurants. If desired, guests can purchase local seafood and souvenirs. The market is especially popular with visitors looking for fresh sushi, seafood bowls, and other local specialties.
After the market, continue to Oarai Isosaki Shrine, a historic seaside shrine overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The highlight is Kamiiso-no-Torii, the famous torii gate standing on the rocky shore. This is an excellent place for photographs and coastal views. Guests who are comfortable with stairs can climb to the main shrine area, while elderly guests or those with mobility concerns can enjoy the lower viewpoint without climbing the steep stone steps.
If time and traffic conditions permit, make a short additional stop at either Hoshiimo Shrine, known for its distinctive golden torii gates and photo opportunities, or Sakatsura Isosaki Shrine, a peaceful shrine surrounded by historic trees.
Finally, return to Hitachinaka Port, allowing sufficient time for a comfortable and safe return to your ship.
