Overview

Your first destination is the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Area, one of Okayama Prefecture’s most charming historic districts. Stroll along the picturesque Kurashiki River, lined with willow trees and traditional white-walled warehouses dating back centuries. The area is home to historic buildings, museums, cafés, and local shops, offering a relaxing introduction to traditional Japanese townscape and culture.

Continue to Okayama Korakuen Garden, one of Japan’s Three Great Gardens. Created more than 300 years ago, this spacious landscape garden features ponds, streams, traditional buildings, tea houses, bridges, and carefully designed walking paths. From the garden, you can also enjoy views toward Okayama Castle.

Next, visit Okayama Castle, also known as Ujo, or Crow Castle, because of its distinctive black exterior. The castle was originally built in the 16th century and has been reconstructed following its destruction during World War II. Inside, visitors can learn about the history of the castle and Okayama while enjoying views over the surrounding city and Korakuen Garden.

After exploring the historic center of Okayama, continue to Ojigatake Observatory, a scenic viewpoint overlooking the beautiful Seto Inland Sea and Seto Ohashi Bridge. On a clear day, the panoramic view extends toward Shikoku. The area is also known for its unusual rock formations and natural landscape. Enjoy a short walk and take photographs while admiring the spectacular coastal scenery.
