Overview

Begin your private shore excursion with convenient pickup directly from Ogi Port. Travel in the comfort of your own private vehicle with a dedicated professional driver. Unlike a large group tour, there is no need to keep pace with other travelers, allowing you to explore southern Sado Island comfortably and at your own pace.

Start at Yajima and Kyojima, two picturesque islands surrounded by the clear coastal waters of southern Sado. Here, discover one of the island’s most distinctive traditions with the opportunity to ride a tarai-bune, a traditional wooden tub boat historically used by local fishermen to collect shellfish and seaweed. The peaceful inlet, red arched bridge, and rocky islands create one of the most memorable scenes in the Ogi area.

Continue to Shukunegi, a historic port village that prospered through shipping and shipbuilding during the Edo period. Walk through narrow lanes lined with traditional wooden houses and discover the distinctive townscape shaped by generations of sailors and shipwrights.

Next, visit the Sado Ogi Folk Museum and Sengokubune Ship Exhibition Hall, housed partly in a former wooden elementary school building. Explore exhibits showcasing the traditional lifestyle, fishing practices, and maritime heritage of southern Sado. A highlight is Hakusanmaru, a full-scale reconstruction of a traditional Japanese merchant ship.

The driver speaks Japanese, and communication will be assisted by a translation device. Before your tour, you will receive an exclusive English digital guidebook and audio guide with information about the itinerary and each sightseeing location. Pre-tour customer support is available in English.

After exploring the maritime traditions, historic villages, and beautiful coastal landscapes of southern Sado, your driver will return you to Ogi Port with the itinerary planned to leave a comfortable margin before your scheduled boarding time.
