Overview

Begin your private shore excursion with a convenient pickup directly from Shimonoseki Port. Travel in the comfort of your own private vehicle. Unlike a large group tour, there is no need to keep pace with other travelers, allowing you to enjoy each destination comfortably and at your own pace.

Travel to Akiyoshidai, one of Japan’s largest karst plateaus, where vast grasslands and countless limestone formations create a distinctive natural landscape. Enjoy panoramic views from the Akiyoshidai Karst Observatory before discovering the underground world of Akiyoshido Cave, one of Japan’s largest limestone caves.

To reduce walking time and allow you to experience the highlights efficiently, this tour uses the elevator entrance for a shorter visit inside Akiyoshido Cave rather than walking the entire approximately 1-kilometer sightseeing course.

Return toward Shimonoseki and visit Hinoyama Park. From the new Hinoyama Ring observation deck, enjoy panoramic views across the Kanmon Strait toward Kyushu. The distinctive double-ring observation deck opened in April 2026.

Continue to Akama Shrine, dedicated to Emperor Antoku, who died at the age of eight during the Battle of Dannoura in 1185. Its striking red-and-white Suitenmon Gate is one of Shimonoseki’s distinctive historic landmarks.

If time permits, stop at Kamon Wharf on the waterfront, where you can browse local specialties and souvenirs or enjoy a quick snack before returning to the port. Shops include local products such as fugu specialties and Yamaguchi souvenirs.

The driver speaks Japanese, and communication will be assisted by a translation device. Before your tour, you will receive an English digital guidebook with information about the itinerary and each sightseeing location. Pre-tour customer support is available in English.

After experiencing the natural wonders of Akiyoshidai and the highlights of Shimonoseki, return comfortably to Shimonoseki Port with the itinerary planned to leave a comfortable margin before your scheduled boarding time.
