#Private Shore Excursion
Sado Island (Ryotsu) : Toki & Sado Gold Mine – 5H
Overview
Begin your private shore excursion with a convenient pickup directly from Ryotsu Port. Travel in the comfort of your own private vehicle. Unlike a large group tour, there is no need to keep pace with other travelers, allowing you to enjoy each destination comfortably and at your own pace.
Begin at Toki Forest Park, one of the best places on Sado Island to learn about the Japanese crested ibis, known as “toki.” Visit the Toki Materials Exhibition Hall and Toki Rapport Plaza, where you can learn about conservation and breeding efforts and observe these rare birds in a specially designed environment.
Continue across the island to the Historic Site Sado Gold Mine, part of the cultural heritage that reflects Sado’s long history of gold and silver mining. Explore both the Sodayu Mine, where displays recreate mining during the Edo period, and the Doyu Mine, which introduces the modernization of mining from the Meiji period onward. The standard self-guided course takes approximately 60–90 minutes.
Next, visit the Kitazawa Flotation Plant Ruins, an impressive industrial heritage site that played an important role in the modernization and large-scale development of Sado’s mining industry. Walk around the remains of the massive concrete structures and discover a different side of Sado’s gold-mining history.
The driver speaks Japanese, and communication will be assisted by a translation device. Before your tour, you will receive an English digital guidebook with information about the itinerary and each sightseeing location. Pre-tour customer support is available in English.
After discovering Sado’s unique wildlife, gold-mining history, and industrial heritage, return comfortably to Ryotsu Port with the itinerary planned to leave a comfortable margin before your scheduled boarding time.
